URAC and NCQA accredited

Healthways is committed to making a difference around the world by improving the quality and efficiency of health care. This commitment to improvement culminated in being the first to beta test NCQA’s disease management standards. Since 2002, Healthways has been accredited and/or certified by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and URAC (formerly known as Utilization Review Accreditation Commission). Accreditation is a comprehensive evaluation process based on an organization’s degree of compliance with a specific set of standards.

NCQA is the acronym for the National Committee for Quality Assurance, a non-profit Washington D.C. based organization whose mission is to improve the quality of health care. NCQA was established in 1990 and is widely recognized as the gold standard of quality for health plans.

URAC is also a non-profit Washington D.C. based organization established in 1990 whose mission is to promote continuous improvement in the quality and efficiency of health care delivery by establishing accreditation standards, programs of education and communication. In 1996, URAC shortened its name to just URAC as it began to accredit additional programs such as health plan and health plan network standards, case management, disease management, health call centers and health web sites. URAC accreditation is highly desired in Health Plan PPO and Health Utilization Management Program markets.
